The coaching corollary: with opposite-colored bishops in the middlegame, evaluate king safety first and material second. I have sacrificed pawns in these positions with total confidence, and I have also, as the defender, given material back immediately just to force queens off — because I knew that a pawn-down ending was a far better fate than a material-equal defense on squares I could not touch.
