2. King and queen. The queen alone cannot mate, so your king must help. The clean method: keep the queen a knight's-move away from the enemy king to box it in without checking, shrink the box to the edge, then walk your own king up and deliver mate. Endless checking. The player gives every available check, the king runs across the board, the checks run out, and the position is worse than before the "attack" began.
